Imagine not having your community…Feeling separate and misunderstood by the people around you. So often, individuals with autism and their families feel such isolation. EVERYONE is entitled and deserves to be a part of a community. Check out the following ideas that will promote acceptance and teach us to embrace each other’s differences and abilities.

2016 Swim A Thon

Parlin, NJ

Thank you to coordinators Erik Solberg and Katelyn Dauphinee for organizing the Swim A Thon 2016! The fourth annual Autism Awareness Swim-A-Thon took place on Saturday, April 23 at the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey’s (ESCNJ) Aquatics & Fitness Center. This year’s Swim-A-Thon was dedicated to Marika O’Rourke, beloved friend, teacher, and supporter of Autism Awareness, who passed away earlier this year. Amount raised: $14,504.17Amazing, it gets better every year!! 

Loews Orthodontics 5th Annual Bowling for Autism
Washington, NJ

Theresa Saracinello and the rest of the Loew Orthodontics' team hung autism awareness posters and handed out materials at the Loews offices throughout April as well as organized their annual Bowl A Thon fundraising event. Amount raised: $2,955.00 We cannot thank you enough!

Arcade for Autism

Ambassador Evelyn Delgado hosted another great night at the Arcade for Autism event! Amount raised: $275.00

Montclair State Public Relations Student Society of America's (PRSSA) 5th Annual Autism Awareness Fundraiser
Montclair, NJ

Montclair State University's PRSSA chapter held their 5th Annual Autism Awareness Fundraiser, benefiting Autism New Jersey.  The event, which brought in $6,000, had over 200 attendees in the audience.

This year's performance, entitled "Jersey Stars" included acts by Broadway performer Stephanie J. Black, singer Don Ciccone from The Critters and Frankie Vail & The Four Seasons and stand-up comedian Sunda Croonquist. Autism Awareness Month at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Ambassador Heather Donald and the outpatient and inpatient staff supported Autism NJ by wearing their blue "I Love Someone with Autism" t-shirts. Thank you for helping us to support Autism Awareness month!

Rowan Italian-American Club's "Light It Up Blue” Autism Awareness Walk

Glassboro, NJ

Rowan University's Italian-American Club is hosted its "Light It Up Blue” Autism Awareness Walk at the Rec Center on April 2. The walk was presented by the Student Council for Exceptional Children. Amount raised: $1,305 Thank you for your support!

Whitestone Associates Dress Down Day

Warren, NJ

April is Autism Awareness Month and in an effort to help raise both awareness and funds that directly impact the lives of individuals and families affected by autism, Michelle Ciano and the Whitestone’s Community Involvement & Volunteering focus group hosted their annual “Dress Down for Autism Day”. Amount raised: $260.  Awesome job!

Children's Center of Monmouth County's Bake Sale
Neptune City, NJ

Children's Center of Monmouth County held their annual bake sale with all proceeds going to Autism New Jersey! Thank you to Angie Tener for helping to organize this event. Amount raised: $3,361.56

Team Kenedi Fundraiser

This is Tracey Atwell's second year on Crowdrise and she is still pressing towards their goal of raising $5,000 for Autism Awareness. So far, Team Kenedi has raised $525. Keep up the great work!

Georgies Bar 2nd Annual Autism Awareness Benefit

On Sunday, April 11th, the 2nd Annual Autism Awareness Benefit was held at Georgies Bar in Asbury Park, NJ. There was a delicious buffet, 50/50 raffle, live DJ and more! Jackie and Anthony Kelly came out to represent Autism New Jersey. Thank you for all your hard work to plan this event!

IHOP in Union, NJ is hosting a few nights of eating out with other families that understand families' unique situation, in a setting where they will do all they can to accommodate your family's needs.

At Autism Family Nights you can expect:

  • Coloring supplies
  • A restaurant staff briefed on autism sensitivity
