Why Awareness Matters: On the Job
Studies show that unemployment for adults with autism is as high as 90%. With increased attention on and conversations about diversity issues in the workplace, there is no better time to address how employers and businesses can improve that statistic and create opportunities for job success for individuals with autism.
There’s no one-size fits all solution. With a spectrum of abilities and challenges, its important to find the right fit and environment. Businesses large and small can play a role in eliminating barriers, and benefit in the process by finding qualified, talented employees who contribute to their success and bottom-line.
Recently, a letter went viral from a 19-year old with autism seeking employment who penned a letter to his “future employer” asking them to “take a chance on me.”
There are tens of thousands like Ryan in New Jersey and across the nation asking for the same.
Autism Awareness Month is a great opportunity to highlight their skills and talents.
